BANGALORE: Tamil Nadu notched up a facile five wicket win over Hyderabad and set up a title clash with Karnataka, which beat Andhra by 60 runs, in the South Zone veterans' cricket championship here on Thursday. Mohammed Azharuddin hammered 120 in 98 balls with 15 fours and one six, for Hyderabad that made 221 for eight wickets in 35 overs. Tamil Nadu raced to target in 22.7 overs with Satish Kumar slamming an unbeaten 121. Earlier, K. Srinivasan hit 50. David Johnson was in great form for Karnataka as he hit 89 in 83 balls with eight fours and four sixes and helped it to score 218 for seven wickets in 35 overs. Andhra, in reply, was bowled out for 158. The scores: Karnataka 218 in 35 overs (David Johnson 89) bt Andhra 158 in 32.1 overs; Hyderabad 221 for eight in 35 overs (Youraj Singh 48, Md. Azaharuddin 120) lost to Tamil Nadu 227 for five in 27.5 overs (K. Srinivasan 50, S. Satish Kumar 121 n.o.)
Unbeaten 101 by Nanaji
B. Nanaji scored an unbeaten 101 and guided Andhra Pradesh to 109 run win over Rajasthan in the National cricket championship for the blind here on Thursday.
The scores: Haryana 258 (Dinesh Kumar 98) bt Karnataka 217 (Shabab Hussain five for 34); Jharkand 104 for eight lost to Gujarat 107 for two; Andhra 282 for three (B. Nanaji 101 n.o., G.Sridhar 68 ) bt Rajasthan 173 for seven; Orissa 179 for nine lost to Delhi 180 for four (Rakesh Prajapati 49).
Nishanth, Hari shine
Century by Nishanth Chugh (108 ) and good bowling by Hari Raghavan, who took five wickets for 28 runs helped PESIT to beat CMRIT by 46 runs in the M.V. Jayaraman memorial inter-engineering colleges cricket tournament here on Thursday. The scores: PESIT 226 for five (Nishanth Chugh 108) bt CMRIT 184 (Hari Raghavan five for 28); DSCE 208 for five (Arjun 73, A.G. Deepak 65) bt KSIT 141 (Tarun 46, Praveen five for 13).
Fourth win for MEG
MEG outplayed BEL Colony Youth Association 26-11 in the State `A' division handball championship here on Thursday. Laskhman scored eight goals while Girish Kumar top scored for BCYA with six. In another league tie, Star Shooters beat Giants 31-16 after leading 12-9 at half-time.MEG will meet KSP in its championship deciding final league tie on Friday.
CRPF beats CISF
Central Reserve Police Force upstaged Central Industrial Security Force 2-1 in a Pool A encounter of the all-India Police hockey tournament. Both sides were evenly matched in the first half and neither could score. In the second half, CISF went ahead in the 47th minute with Paramveer scoring. CRPF drew level within six minutes through Balkar Singh off the fourth penalty corner. In the final minute of the game Mukesh Kumar slotted the match winner.
Big win for J&K
Jammu & Kashmir scored six times in the first half to beat Madhya Pradesh 6-0. Mandeep Singh scored thrice, Onkar Singh twice off -penalty strokes while S. Singh opened the scoring in the fifth minute. Jammu & Kashmir had earlier beaten Jharkand 2-0 in the morning. Gurjeet Singh cashed in on the first and fourth penalty corners. In another morning match, Gujarat beat Railway Protection Force 4-2 . Starting off with a penalty stroke conversion by Birendra Singh in the second minute, Mahendra Singh (2) and Shailender Singh completed the tally. RPF's goal scorers were D.R. Das and N. Lakra. Tamil Nadu scored an emphatic 5-1 win over Manipur, while BSF trounced Tripura 7-0.
