Widespread protests staged against Bush visit

Left parties, student unions and others take out rallies


  • Slogans like `Bush Go Back; Bush the vampire' raised
  • US Military aggression in Iraq and `plot' to attack Iran condemned
  • Effigies of the US President burnt in several districts

    Tirupati: The temple city of Tirupati and other major towns in the district on Thursday reverberated with `anti-Bush and anti-American' slogans with the Left parties -- CPI (M) and CPI in league with their frontal organisations taking out rallies through the town. Effigies also were burnt at the busy junctions even as the activists chanted slogans like `Bush Go Back,' `Bush the vampire' and so on.

    Meanwhile the Secretary of the Andhra Pradesh unit of Unity Centre for Communist Revolutionaries of India -- UCCRI (M-L) -- Vinod has in a press release condemned the US' overtures for world domination and strongly opposed its "unjust wars of aggression, war-mongering and war-preparations." The Centre also opposed the UPA government's 'reactionary collaboration' with the US super power.

    `Down with imperialism'

    Kurnool Staff Reporter writes: The activists of AISF wore T-shirts that carried the message "Bush Go Back.'' The speakers belonging to the Left Parties and others said the United States under the leadership of Mr. Bush was trying to bully over smaller countries.

    `Global terrorist'

    Kadapa Staff Reporter writes: DYFI, SFI and Awaaz activists burnt effigies of US President George W. Bush decrying his visit to the country and the State.

    They burnt Bush's effigy before the Collectorate and the old bus stand here. Accusing Mr. Bush of being a `global terrorist' and an enemy of Islamic nations, DYFI district secretary B. Manohar and Awaaz district secretary S. Magbul Basha condemned US military aggression against Iraq and Afghanistan and plot to attack Iran.

    `US war thirsty-nation'

    Anantapur Staff Reporter writes: Protests against the visit of the US President continued for the second consecutive day on Thursday, in different parts of the district.

    At Hindupur, CPI (M) activists took out a procession and burnt an effigy of the US President.
