Staff Reporter

  • Allocation of substantial funds demanded
  • Completition of irrigation works sought
  • 200 villages yet to be electrified

KADAPA: Leaders of CPI, CPI (M), Telugu Desam Party wanted the State Government to undertake comprehensive development of the district by allocating substantial funds.

Former Minister and TDP leader R. Rajagopala Reddy has urged the Government to expeditiously complete irrigation projects in the district. The Government should allot more funds and develop the district in various sectors, he said at a round table conference organised by the CPI (M) here on Wednesday. He lauded the party for taking up a padayatra in this regard from March 5 to 26.

CPI (M) District Secretary B. Narayana said that farmers are incurring debts in the perennially drought-prone district but were yet to be paid compensation or crop insurance. He alleged tardy progress of irrigation projects. Nearly 200 villages were yet to be electrified and literacy was below par, he lamented. Kadapa Mayor P. Ravindranath Reddy said that the Government was striving to ensure all-round development of the district. Irrigation projects pending for decades would be completed, he said.

The Government set up a medical college, constructed a sports school and a stadium, besides undertaking various developmental activities, he said. He assured to apprise Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy of the suggestions given. PCC member M.P. Venkatesh wanted a film city to be set up in order to encourage cultural artistes.
