BANGALORE: Governor T.N. Chaturvedi on Thursday inaugurated an e-library facility in the Legislature Library. The facility will help locate books in the library which has a large collection. He released books on eminent parliamentarians published by the legislature. They are on late Ramakrishna Hegde; former Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore University and educationist H. Narasimhaiah, who was a nominated member of the Legislative Council; former Minister K.H. Ranganath; former Ministers late S.M. Yahya and C. Byre Gowda; and late Bapugowda Darshanapura.
Tradition broken
By releasing a book on Mr. Ranganath, a veteran political leader, the Legislature Secretariat has broken the tradition of publishing books only on parliamentarians who have passed away. Mr. Ranganath is a former Speaker of the Assembly and former member of the Lok Sabha. He was present. Mr. Chaturvedi recalled his association with Ramakrishna Hegde and said he was one of the best administrators produced by the State. Hegde was his colleague in the Rajya Sabha. Later, he became Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission and Union Minister for Commerce, Mr. Chaturvedi said.
Other books
Karnataka Ekikarana Matthu Namakarana Charitre and Karnataka Raitha Chalavali-Satyagrahagalu, authored by C.R. Govindaraj and M.G. Nagaraj, respectively, were also released by the Governor. Mr. Chaturvedi congratulated Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Krishna, Chairman of the Legislative Council V.R. Sudarshan and members of the State Legislature Library Committee on the release of the books. The Governor also felicitated the authors of books: L.N. Mukundaraj (K.H. Ranganath) B.M. Haneef (S.M. Yahya), Prahalad Rao (Byre Gowda), Gangadharaiah Hiremath (Bapugouda Darshanapura), Shudra Srinivas (Ramakrishna Hegde) and Gangadharamurthy (H. Narasimaiah). Earlier, Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy said Ramakrishna Hegde and Byre Gowda were eminent parliamentarians in the true sense of term. His generation of politicians would do well to study Hegde's contributions to panchayat raj system and Byre Gowda's work in the fields of irrigation and agriculture. Both leaders served society in various capacities over decades, the Chief Minister said. Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly N. Dharam Singh recalled contributions of Hegde and the other leaders. Mr. Sudarshan welcomed the gathering. Chandrashekar B. Kambar, MLC, proposed a vote of thanks. Higher Education Minister D.H. Shankaramurthy, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Basavaraj Horatti and legislators attended the function.
