Pondicherry
Special Correspondent
Pondicherry: Students of a privately managed Vinayaka Mission College of Paramedical colleges at Krimambakkam near here who have been facing hardship in taking the University examinations because of "lack of recognition and approval of the college either by the Nursing Council of India or Pondicherry University" staged a demonstration on Thursday near the official residence of the Health Minister here urging the Administration to admit them in any of the recognised institutions in Pondicherry. They said they were also on fast to focus their present agonising predicament. The demonstrators including women candidates also carried placards. They contended that government's intervention to relieve them of their agony would be helpful. A delegation led by the president of the Students Federation of India (Pondicherry) N.Praburaj held discussions with the Health Minister E. Valsaraj in the meanwhile at his office for nearly an hour today. Mr. Praburaj later told The Hindu that the Minister listened to the grievances of the students patiently and assured the delegation that firm steps would be taken to relieve them of their agony through appropriate decision.
Lack of approval of college
Around 107 students of the Nursing College have been at their wits end, as they could not take the University examinations because of lack of approval or affiliation of the college. They have been urging the government to address their issue without delay. "Our future lies in the hands of Pondicherry Administration", the students said.
