KOLLAM: Pyrotechnics expert Koyakunju Asan, 80, was killed in an explosion at his fireworks store behind the Kottamkulangara Temple at Chavara on Thursday morning. He was initially rushed to the District Hospital and from there to a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram where he succumbed to his injuries. There were 20 others engaged in work at the time of the explosion. Some of them, including his son Hussein, suffered minor burns. They were administered first aid at a nearby hospital and discharged. Koyakunju Asan was a veteran in the field who had entertained thousands over a span of six decades with awesome pyrotechnics. His body has been shifted to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
