KARIMNAGAR: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) former national president Bangaru Laxman has asked Chief Minister Y. S. Rajashekhar Reddy to meet the Maharashtra Chief Minister and stop the illegal Babli project on the river Godavari in the neighbouring State. Talking to newsmen here on Thursday, he said that Maharashtra State was taking up the Babli and other projects on the river Godavari against the Central Water Commission (CWC) directives. The projects would prove detrimental to the Telangana region projects, he said and wanted the Chief Minister to clarify his stand on the prospects of Telangana projects including the prestigious SRSP.
Bush visit
On the visit of US President, George W. Bush to India, he said: "We cannot stop the his visit to the country because of our diplomatic relations. We can only protest against his policies and his visit to the country. '' He said that there was good response to the party's `Palle pilupu' programme in villages. He said that during the programme, they noticed that suicides by farmers had increased and the Government had failed to fulfil its election promise of providing special package to the bereaved families of the farmers. He also expressed concern over power cut for farming community.
Union budget
Terming the Union budget as election oriented one, he said that the Central Government had burdened the people with additional taxes indirectly by including 20 services under the service tax structure.
