A fruitful visit

WEB OF MAGIC: Magician P.C. Sorcar Jr. with his daughter, Maneka Sorcar.

Renowned magician P.C. Sorcar Jr. has a strong bond with the State. Addressing a press meet on his arrival to the city, he said Vazhakunnam Namboodiri, from whom he learnt the art of conjuring, was a father figure to him. No member of the Sorcar family would miss a chance to visit Kerala, he said. His daughter, Maneka Sorcar, a busy magician in her own right, had cancelled her scheduled programmes to join him on this tour, he said. However, this visit — P.C. Sorcar Jr. was visiting the State after more than two decades — had a surprise in store for him. As the curtain came down on his first performance in the city, a person approached him backstage and handed over a faded black and white photograph of Sorcar sitting with his teacher. "This gesture touched me," said Sorca. He now has one more memento to cherish about his master. A tour cannot be more successful, in any aspect.
