JANGAON (WARANGAL DT): As the dawn broke, all boys and girls sporting their best and latest dresses gathered on the sprawling campus of Christu Jyothi Engineering College at Colombo Nagar on Thursday. For the students, it was a festival day `Arpan 2006'. They came up with their best creative ideas to tease and educate one another. Fun and frolic reigned for the rest of the day.
Value of friendship
Institute director K. Vijay Kumar Reddy declared: "Friendship is invaluable. Hence, I dedicate this song to you all," and then the DJ came up with a bang. The jukebox belted out `Mustafa mustafa' from the popular movie `Kadal Desam'. And then the requests came pouring in while the box blared: `I am not a girl, not a woman' and `Oops I did it again' and then the raging Telugu popular number from `Gajini' `Hrudayam Ekkadunnadi'. The mood was set and there was no stopping. And the girls kept tapping to the rhythm of the music. A girl dedicated a song to her lover while another to her fellow students. And some had a request dedicated to `Dear Sir' and the others to all those present there and to their beloved principal V.G.N. Rao. The college fest of Christu Jyothi Institute of Technology & Science is different from the ones held in other colleges. Fr. Vijay Kumar and the principal lead the students first. They tried their luck at different stalls put up -- Texas Zone, Ek minute, Level 7, Lucky Bounce, Try U R luck, Sport a not, Balls & Boxes and the list goes on. Fr. Vijay Kumar and Mr. Rao turned lucky and declared themselves still a force to reckon with by competing with their students.
All the proceeds from the auction of stalls, funds generated by the students from different games and not to miss the money-spinner `jukebox' -- all go for a cause.
Noble gesture
Last time, the students mobilised Rs. 40,000 and donated uniforms and books to tribal students of a Government school in Nidigonda village. "This year we want to adopt a village," said the principal.
