KOZHIKODE: Wedding bells pealed for 22-year-old Manju, an inmate of the After Care Home attached to the Government Juvenile Home here on Thursday. The groom O.N. Jayan is a small farmer from Aandoor near Kalpetta in Wayanad district. More than 200 guests including staff and inmates of the After Care Home, representatives of welfare associations and philanthropists were present at the simple marriage ceremony and lunch arranged at Vellimadukunnu in the morning. The marriage was fixed with assistance of the Suhrid Samithi. The formalities were conducted after preliminary enquiries were made about the groom. Philanthropists, Sree Mansons Charitable Trust and the Vellimadukunnu unit of the Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samithi pooled in contributions to present the bride with a two-sovereign chain. The State Government's stipulated assistance of Rs.5,000 for the After Care Home inmates was used for presenting the bride with clothes and vessels, besides a small gold ornament. Manju, who has been staying at the After Care Home for four years, had earlier spent eight years at the Juvenile Home. She had passed SSLC and had undergone training in tailoring.
