No room for cricket
Cricket enthusiasts in the city are a disappointed lot these days. Many complain that there are no more open spaces in the city to play their favourite game. Vast expanses of paddy fields and wetlands, which used to serve as cricket grounds , have been reclaimed for building construction. Schools do not allow in outsiders to use their grounds.
"The game, even if played with a tennis ball, is frowned upon by senior citizens in residential colonies," says a local league player. The situation has forced players to travel to the suburbs in search of suitable spaces, he says.
