Abohar (Ferozepur): A school in Punjab has introduced a novel idea to teach its students some easy methods to earn. From book-binding to preparing envelopes, pickles, juices and jams, the students at Ek Jote High School are learning it all. The special training is being provided as an extra curricular activity. Located in Ferozepur district in Abohar, the Ek Jote High School has taken this initiative to make its students, coming from poor families, self-reliant. It also focuses on eradicating child labour and increasing literacy in the country. "More students have started attending school after we introduced such programmes. The students' attendance is almost hundred per cent now," said Kanta Aggarwal, principal of Ek Jote High School. According to the school trust officials, such initiatives will promote education in the country and training programmes introduced by the school will help students support their families while studying. "With good education we are also providing training to the students to make pickles, jams, candles, envelopes and even book binding. This way, students will become self-reliant." For a long time lack of resources was a major reason for parents belonging to low-income groups not sending their children to school. "The School has been successful in convincing the parents to send their wards to school, especially girls. The school gives all support to the students while studying," said Ms Aggarwal. -- ANI
