Minority colleges challenge Government action

Legal Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The minority education colleges whose minority status has been withdrawn by the State Government have approached the High Court and filed the writ petition challenging the action of the State Government.

Justice R. Subhash Reddy heard the arguments on Thursday and orders are likely to be passed on Friday. The petitioner colleges complained that the State Government had issued the impugned orders of withdrawal of minority status on the ground that enough number of students from that particular minority community have not been given admission by them. They said that enough number of candidates could not be admitted due to the various G.O.s issued by respondent authorities. The Government informed the court that each college violated the conditions by not giving the admission to the minority students only up to 85 per cent of the seats.
