Kadatoka to perform on Sunday
HINDUSTANI FLAUTIST Shambhu Bhat Kadatoka will perform on Sunday at Sri Akhila Havyak Mahasabha in the city at 6 p.m.
Born at Kadatoka in Honnavar taluk of Uttar Kannada district, he was attracted to the "bansuri" even as a child.
He was initially trained by Chitrigi Datta Mastar. Later, he was taught by people such as Kattige Bhat, R.N. Joshi Buwa of Belgaum and Venkatesh Godkhindi of Dharwad.
He has performed at several well-known events, including the Sawai Gandharva festival at Kundagol in Dharwad district.
The 70-year-old flautist started a music school in his village in 1963. Mr. Kadatoka runs a high school and pre-university college.
He is also responsible for starting institutions dedicated to music at Kumta, Gokarna, Ankola and Karwar.
