Certificates for vehicles and identity cards for drivers and owners

VIJAYAWADA: The traffic wing of the city police and the Road Transport Authority will jointly launch on March 4 a special drive to identity the drivers and owners of autorickshaws plying in the city so as to register them separately.

The drivers and owners of all such autorickshaws will have to register their details and that of their vehicles in the police stations concerned between March 4 and 12. The police and transport departments will issue certificates to vehicles and identity cards to drivers and owners during the special drive.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, assistant commissioner of police (traffic wing) T. Prabhakara Babu and deputy transport commissioner M. Ratna Manikyam said that the drivers and owners should register their permits with the police station concerned and obtain an authorisation certificate and a special identification number.

Special design

The specially designed certificate would be pasted on the windows of vehicles, while the special identification number would be painted on the rear side of the vehicle. Details of the drivers and owners would be displayed behind the driver's seat for the benefit of commuters.

In case of hired vehicles, the owners and drivers would have to visit the police station together to obtain identity cards meant for the drivers. Besides issuing certificates and identity cards, the officials would also fix a seal to the vehicles restricting the speed limit to 40 km per hour. The certificate and identity card together would cost Rs. 100. If two drivers were using one vehicle, an additional amount of Rs. 50 would have to be paid for issuing a separate identity card.

Verification of the details submitted by the drivers would begin on March 13. Issue of certificate, identity card and serial number would be done from March 15 to March 30.
