MANGALORE: People of Belma Gram Panchayat in Mangalore taluk staged a dharna in front of the gram panchayat office on Thursday seeking drinking water. Vanita Ramakrishna, who led the people, told presspersons that the village has not received water for the past two weeks and appeals to the gram panchayat have been ignored. She said that there are 350 families in the village who depend on the gram panchayat for water, which was stopped suddenly two weeks ago. She said that the people of the village are forced to buy water. They have appealed to the Deputy Commissioner and the Chief Executive Officer of the zilla panchayat and the taluk panchayat president to take steps to ease the drinking water crisis. If their problem is not solved at the earliest, they will lock up the gram panchayat office, she said.
