BANGALORE: Robbers struck at three places in the early hours of Thursday and robbed three persons, including an autorickshaw driver. The police said that around 12.30 a.m., four persons hired Sheik Rahamathullah's autorickshaw at 4th Block, Jayanagar, and asked him to drop them near ISKCON Temple on Chord Road. On reaching Chord Road, they asked the driver to go to Mahalakshmi Layout. At an isolated area at Shankaranagar, they requested the driver to stop the vehicle as they wanted to answer nature's call. The four got down from the vehicle, threw chilli powder on Rahamathullah's face and robbed him of Rs. 100. They escaped in his autorickshaw. On a complaint by Rahamathullah, Nandini Layout police have registered a case. In the second case, three men, who were travelling by an autorickshaw, robbed Anand Rao of Rs. 500 in cash and a mobile phone in Mahadevapura police station limits. The police said that around 1.30 a.m. Anand Rao, who works as a supervisor with a construction company, got down from a company vehicle near K.R. Puram Railway Station. While he was waiting for an autorickshaw to reach his house at Nethravathi Layout in K.R. Puram, three persons, who came in an autorickshaw, offered him a ride. After reaching Udayanagar Main Road, off Old Madras Road, the three threw chilli powder on Mr. Rao's face and robbed him of cash and telephone. The Mahadevapura police have registered a case. The police suspect the involvement of the same gang in the two incidents. In another incident, a youth snatched a gold chain estimated at Rs. 60,000 from Radhamma (51) in Ramamurthynagar police station limits. The police said that around 5.45 a.m., the youth came from behind and snatched Radhamma's chain while she was putting "rangoli" in front of her house on 7th Main, 3rd Block, Dasappa Layout. The Ramamurthynagar police have registered a case.
Life term
The IX Fast Track Court has convicted and sentenced Ramesh Nayak (24) of Nelagadarenahalli to life imprisonment for murdering and robbing a housewife of her gold ornaments and other valuables. According to the charge sheet filed by Peenya police in the court, on July 19, 2004, Nayak had barged into Nelamma's house in Nelagadarenahalli when she was alone. He hit her on the head with a stone and robbed her of gold ornaments and taken away cash and other valuables that were in a cupboard. Neelamma (51), who suffered head injuries, died two days later.
Vehicles recovered
The Kamakshipalya police have arrested Abhinetra (20) of Govindarajanagar and his accomplice, a 16-year-old boy, on charges of vehicle theft and recovered from them two-wheelers estimated at Rs. 1.90 lakhs.
Ganja seized
In another case, the Kamakshipalya police have arrested Mohammed Afzal (35) of Magadi in Bangalore Rural district and seized from him ganja estimated at Rs. 5,500. He was arrested while he was trying to sell ganja near a eucalyptus grove on Magadi Road on Tuesday, the police said.
