88-year-old held on charge of killing son

Thiruvananthapuram: The Thampanoor police have arrested Velayudhan Thampi, 88, on the charge of stabbing to death his 55-year-old son. The victim, Krishnamurthi, who was admitted to the Medical College Hospital with serious injuries on Wednesday afternoon, died on Thursday.

The police said the father and son regularly consumed alcohol together. Around 3.30 p.m. on Wednesday, the father and son got into a drunken brawl. The police case is that Thampi stabbed his son several times on the stomach and face in the heat of the moment. Thampi, who was arrested on the charge of murder, has been remanded in judicial custody.

Youth held

The Museum police have arrested two youth in connection with the attack on a rent-a-car agency Edappazhanji last month. An employee of the agency was injured in the attack.

Circle Inspector S. Madhusoodhanan identified the accused as "Sasthamangalam" Ambili and "Fraud" Aji of Malayankeezhu. The CI said the duo had attacked the rent-a-car agency on the suspicion that another gang in the city backed it. The CI said one of the suspects in the recent murder case at Panicker's Lane had contacted Ambili over mobile phone immediately after the incident. He said Ambili was one of the first persons to arrive on the murder scene.

Woman drowns

The body of a 49-year-old woman was fished out of Karamana river near Thiruvallom on Thursday. The police identified the woman as Sukumari, a local resident. The police suspect Sukumari to have drowned while bathing in the river.
