Deemed varsity students boycott classes in Kancheepuram
Staff Reporter
KANCHEEPURAM:
Students of Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Viswa Mahavidyalaya (Deemed University) on Thursday stayed away from their classes urging the university authorities to obtain `AICTE approval' for the courses conducted by the institution. They assembled near the main gate at Enathur at 9 a.m. and raised slogans.
They continued the demonstration even after the Registrar, V.H. Baskaran, who came to the campus at 10-30 a.m., asked them to withdraw their agitation.
Mediapersons could not contact the Registrar or Vice-Chancellor B. Viswanathan to get a clear picture of the situation, as the university staff did not allow them to enter the campus or speak to them over telephone. Police officials posted near the university said the authorities accepted a suggestion to close down the hostel to mollify the students.
