BANGALORE: Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa on Friday assured Albert Bruner, Chief Executive Officer, Bangalore International Airport Ltd. (BIAL) of all support in the timely completion of the airport at Devanahalli. Mr. Brunner, who called on the Deputy Chief Minister, reportedly told Mr. Yediyurappa that the expansion of the airport was necessary as the air traffic between Bangalore and other destinations across the globe was increasing. The Union Government is known to have last year asked BIAL to make certain changes in its plans because the traffic projections may exceed the four million passenger mark estimated for 2008. The Deputy Chief Minister advised Mr. Bruner to consider the requirements of the next 50 years while expanding the project. He wanted the ongoing work to be completed ahead of the project work in Hyderabad. He wanted it to be operational by January 2008. He said the appointment of Chairman to BIAL was under the consideration of the Government. An appropriate decision would be taken soon, he said. Mr. Yediyurappa promised to visit the airport site.
