Belgaum: Following the leak of question paper, the district-level examination in Hindi language of the Pre-University First Year, conducted on Friday, has been cancelled. The re-examination for the paper will be conducted on March 12.

The question paper leak came to light at about 8.15 a.m. A photocopy of the question paper was available with The Hindu here at about 8.30 a.m., one hour before the commencement of the examination.

On being informed, Deputy Commissioner Shalini Rajneesh immediately inquired with the Deputy Director of the Pre-Uiniversity Board, Belgaum, about the leak. However, the latter reportedly denied that the question paper has leaked. The Deputy Director was apparently unaware of the fact a copy of the question paper was with the Deputy Commissioner.

Ms. Rajneesh declared around noon that the examination in the paper has been cancelled. The Deputy Director has been asked to investigate and trace the source of leakage of the question paper.

Meanwhile, sources said that the question paper was leaked on Thursday night itself. It came to light when some persons rushed to make photocopies of the paper.

Meanwhile, there are reports of leakage of question paper in the subject to be conducted on Saturday.

According to sources, some persons from a Pre-University college in the heart of the city are allegedly selling photocopies of the question paper.

In view of leakage of more than one question paper, a fresh set of question papers is expected to be distributed for the examination for the remaining subjects.
