Couple hacked to death

ANANTAPUR: A couple was hacked to death by miscreants in Mahatma Gandhi Colony at Dharmavaram in the district in the wee hours of Friday. It is suspected that their acquaintances or their kin could be behind the murder.

According to the police, Hanumanthu, (45), and his wife Gowramma, (36), were sleeping in the verandah of their house when some persons attacked them with hunting sickles around 3 a.m. and hacked them.

Hanumanthu, belonging to the Erikala community was an accused in 22 cases of robberies and theft including a few inter-State crimes. His second wife Laxminarasamma complained to the police suspecting that Nagaraju, Gangaraju and Subbarayudu could be behind the murders.

3 dead in accident

Three persons died in two road accidents in the district on Friday. The police stated that Ramanjaneyulu, (32), and Anjinappa, (47), of Suddakuntapalli in Somandepalli mandal were on their way to Hindupur on a motorbike to get diesel for their farm pumpset, when the accident occurred. In the second incident, one Siva Reddy, (40), was run over by a vehicle.
