Kedriouk-Inoyatov pair clinches title

NEW DELHI: Alexey Kedriouk of Kazakhstan and Murad Inoyatov of Uzbekistan overpowered Vijay Kannan and Ashutosh Singh 6-4, 6-2 in the doubles final of the ITF Satellite circuit second leg at the DLTA complex here on Friday.

The top-seeded Asian champions served rocks and were solid on court in outplaying the third-seeded Indian pair who failed to rise to the occasion.

The Kazakh-Uzbek combination fired 16 aces and conceded only six points in all on their nine service games. Two of those points were on double faults. In fact, the top seeds emphasised their overwhelming supremacy by not conceding a solitary point on their serve in the second set.

The Indian lads were not sharp on court and were on the backfoot once Ashutosh was broken in the third game of the first set.

The momentum continued to be with the visitors, as Ashutosh was broken once again, in the first game of the second set. Later, Vijay too dropped serve in the seventh game and Inoyatov served out the match that lasted a mere 50 minutes. The winners, who had finished runner-up to the Koreans in the first leg, shared $ 393.75 and collected 15 circuit points each. The runners-up had to be content with $ 206.25 and added 10 circuit points each to their collection.

Wiltschnig in final

Earlier, in the singles semifinals, the champion of the first leg, the second-seeded Herbert Wiltschnig of Austria tamed Federico Torresi of Italy, while Manuel Jorequera of Italy outplayed Hyung-Kwor Kim of Korea for the loss of three games.

The results:

Singles (semifinals): Manuel Jorquera (Ita) bt Hyung-Kwor Kim (Kor) 6-2, 6-1; Herbert Wiltschnig (Aut) bt Federico Torresi (Ita) 6-2, 6-4.

Doubles (final): Murad Inoyatov (Uzb) and Alexey Kedriouk (Kaz) bt Vijay Kannan and Ashutosh Singh 6-4, 6-2.
