HYDERABAD: The Left parties -- CPI(M), CPI, CPI (ML) committee and CPI (ML-Liberation) -- took out a rally here on Friday to protest against the visit of George W. Bush who according to them, was the symbol of "U.S. imperialism." Members from various social groups, including Muslim organisations and those working for human rights also attended the rally that started from Sundaraiah Vignana Kendram and culminated into a public meeting at Indira Park passing through Narayanguda and Ashoknagar. Addressing the gathering, CPI(M) State secretary B.V. Raghavulu, CPI Central Secretariat member Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy, PUCL leader, K.G. Kannabiran and others cautioned the Government against succumbing to US pressures to take control over India in the name of bilateral agreements in the economic, defence and nuclear research areas. The country was already facing the threat of increase in oil prices following the aggression of the US in West Asia and the US was trying to pit India against China to counter the latter's rapid expansion in the global economy. The movement launched against the US President's visit to the country was only a beginning and the Left parties would continue their struggle till the country came out of the US influence in its policy matters, they said.
