`Cases against detenus being reviewed'

SRINAGAR: Asserting that his Government was committed to restoration of peace in the State, Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Friday said that the decisions taken at the round-table conference in Delhi on February 25 were being followed vigorously and the cases of all detenus against whom there are no serious charges are being reviewed. A joint committee of the State and Central governments had been constituted.

Winding up the discussion on the Governor's address in the Legislative Council in Jammu, Mr. Azad said that soon after the round-table convened by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, he met Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil and officers from both Central and State governments were asked to start working towards the issue of detenus.

"A decision about these cases will be taken by the end of this month," he said. The Chief Minister said that the State had seen a lot of bloodshed in the last 16 years. "We want to get the State out of this and will support the peace initiatives in letter and in spirit," he added.
