Telemedicine project to reach all districts

Special Correspondent

All mobile surgical units would also be connected to the project

JAIPUR: The Rajasthan Government will extend the telemedicine project, bringing in connectivity between patients at remote ends and specialist doctors in Jaipur, to all districts by March-end to provide expert medical services to the rural populace.

The project, being operated through the INSAT satellite network, was launched here last month.

Mobile surgical units

Medical and Health Minister Digambar Singh, making the announcement in the State Assembly on Thursday, said all mobile surgical units functioning across the State would also be connected to the project -- linking them with Sawai Man Singh Hospital here -- to enable them to provide multi-speciality teleadvisories in their camps.

The State Government has initiated the project in collaboration with the Indian Space Research Organisation to enable poor villagers to get expert medical advice while sitting at remote locations, doing away with the need to travel to Jaipur or other bigger cities, thus saving their expenses and time and avoiding trouble.

Dr. Singh, replying to supplementary queries in the question hour, pointed out that the mobile surgical units were holding camps in interior areas to conduct operations and the telemedicine facility would help them provide timely relief to patients.

He said the rural population in the State had also benefited from nearly 150 `Sanjeevani' camps held recently.

The Minister, in reply to the original question by the Bharatiya Janata Party MLA, Jeet Ram, said the three mobile units functioning in Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur regions had the annual target of organising 22 to 24 camps in villages.
