Plan to promote Haryana literature, says Hooda

CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Friday stated that his Government was formulating a comprehensive plan to promote Haryana's literature, heritage and culture.

Speaking at a function organized by the Haryana Sanskrit Academy, Haryana Sahitya Academy and Haryana Punjabi Academy to honour noted litterateurs, Mr.Hooda called for research in Haryanvi literature. While claiming that the litterateurs of Haryana were no less than Shakespeare, he regretted that Haryana's culture, despite being rich, could not get the desired boost.

The Education Minister, Phool Chand Mullana, thanked the Chief Minister for instituting new awards and enhancing the cash incentive of some of these awards. Among the litterateurs of Sanskrit, Maharish Balmiki Puraskar for 2004-05 was conferred upon Shiv Naryan Shastri and for the year 2005-06 on Sansar Chander. The award carries Rs. 1 lakh in cash, a shawl and a certificate of appreciation. Maharishi Ved Vyas Award, carrying Rs. 51,000 in cash, a shawl and a certificate of appreciation, was conferred on Ram Bhagat Sharma for the year 2004-05 and upon Mahabir Prasad Sharma for the year 2005-06. Mahakavi Bhan Bhatt Puraskar was awarded to Ishwar Chander Sharma.

In case of books, two awards were given to Rameshwar Dutt Sharma and Jai Narayan Yatri for the year 2004-05. The Bhai Santokh Singh Puraskar of Rs. 1 lakh was awarded to Ramesh Kumar and Baba Sheikh Farid Puraskar to Joginder Singh. Well- known litterateur and Rajya Kavi, Udai Bhanu Hans, was presented the Sur Puraskar carrying Rs. 1lakh. Babu Bal Mukand Gupt Puraskar for Hindi literature was awarded to Amrit Lal Madan and for journalism to Madan Gopal. Haryana Gaurav Puraskar, instituted recently to encourage those hailing from Haryana but bringing laurels to the State while putting up at other places, was conferred upon Sunita Jain, Pandit Lakhmi Chand Puraskar was awarded to Rajvir Singh Dhankhad for promotion of art, culture and folk literature of Haryana.
