BANGALORE: The suspense over the appointment of the Commissioner of Police, Bangalore, ended on Friday with the State Government promoting Additional Director-General of Police (ADGP) Ajai Kumar Singh as Director-General of Police and continuing him as Commissioner of Police, Bangalore. The Government has accordingly upgraded the post of Commissioner to the grade of DGP. The Government has announced that the cadre post of Commissioner in the grade of ADGP has been kept under abeyance. There are 12 officers in the rank of ADGP in the State and some of them were lobbying for the post. Mr. Singh, an IPS officer of the 1974 batch and the senior most ADGP, was due for promotion as DGP after DGP (Fire Services) S. Mariswamay retired on January 31. This is the second instance when the Government has upgraded the post of Bangalore Police Commissioner to the rank of DGP and continued the incumbent on his promotion. The S. Bangarappa Government had promoted the then Police Commissioner R. Ramalingam as DGP and continued him in the upgraded post. The Government lowered the post to the grade of ADGP when Chandulal succeeded him.
