MADURAI:
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has granted autonomous status to three affiliated colleges of Madurai Kamaraj University here following inspection held by an expert team recently.
All the three institutions are located in Madurai:
Yadava College, E.M.G.Yadava College for Women and Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science.
Sources in the university told The Hindu on Friday that an official communication from the UGC was received on Thursday and the matter would now be taken to the Syndicate for its approval.
The UGC Joint Secretary, A.K. Dogra, along with three experts from different universities, conducted the assessment here last month and interacted with college principals, managements, faculty members and students.
A formal decision on conferring autonomy might be taken at the Syndicate meeting scheduled for March 6, sources said.
