Thiruvananthapuram: The district medical administration has sounded an alert on the possibility of dengue fever outbreak in the district again in the wake of summer showers. Scattered cases of dengue fever are being reported from various parts of the district all through the year. However, a bunch of cases had been reported from Puthukurichi, Kanyakulangara, Thiruvallam and Vattiyoorkavu areas in January and February. A total of 116 cases of dengue fever was reported in the past two months alone in the district. About 25 cases were reported from Puthukurichi in January, following which the district health administration had launched large-scale preventive measures all along the coastal belt. The most common breeding site here was found to be the water storage tanks, most of which were not covered properly. Source reduction being the primary prevention measure in checking dengue fever, care should be taken that there are no stagnant water pools around the house, the district health administration said in a statement here.
