BANGALORE: Two policemen were injured when a man accused in theft cases attacked them in Byatarayanapura police station limits on Thursday. On a tip-off, four policemen attached to the Crime Squad of the Kengeri Gate subdivision went to Shammanna Garden in Byatarayanapura to arrest Hoskote Siraj. Around 9.30 p.m. when the police surrounded Siraj, who was near a tea stall, he stabbed constable Cheluve Gowda in the thigh with a knife. He pushed another constable Mallikarjuna and ran away. Mallikarjuna, who fractured his hand, has been hospitalised, the police said. The Byatarayanapura police have registered a case.
Arrested
The Ulsoor Gate police arrested three persons who allegedly cheated banks and financial institutions by not repaying vehicle loans. The police have seized 12 two-wheelers worth Rs. 4.50 lakhs from them. The police said Thimmaiah, Shivanna and Venkatesh had taken loans from ING Vysya, ICICI Bank and GE Countrywide and bought several two-wheelers. The accused, who had not repaid the loan instalments, had sold the vehicles to gullible persons in rural areas for a lesser price. They had assured the buyers that the vehicle documents would be given to them later, the police said.
