NEW DELHI: Four persons allegedly involved in bank robberies have been arrested by the Special Staff of the South Delhi police. The gang used to commit robbery and then lavishly spend the entire booty. Acting on a tip-off, a Special Staff team under the supervision of Inspector Rajender Singh laid a trap near Lotus Temple in Kalkaji this past Wednesday. The suspects were arrested when they assembled there in the afternoon. Those arrested have been identified as Zuber Khan, Zabbar, Sehdev and Arif Khan. Firearms and knives were recovered from their possession. The police said Zuber was the leader of the gang comprising around 10 men. All of them hailed from two villages of Meerut in Uttar Pradesh. The gang was involved in the bank robbery at Sant Nagar in Burari in April last year. They had also targeted a bank in Dehra Dun but did not succeed. Subsequently, they robbed a luxury bus on their way to Meerut. The gang members then spent several days in Mussorie till their entire booty was finished. According to the police, the gang would usually carry out a reconnaissance of the bank for a few days and then strike with armed weapons. They also targeted people withdrawing money from the bank.
