NEW DELHI: A large number of people under the banner of Muslim Democratic Forum gathered at Jama Masjid Chowk in the Walled City area after the Friday prayers to stage a protest demonstration against the visit of United States President George W. Bush. Carrying black flags, the protestors shouted slogans against President Bush. Speaking on the occasion, Forum chairman Shoaib Iqbal described President Bush as the leader of an imperialist power whose hands were soaked with the blood of thousands of innocent people. "Recently, he destroyed Iraq by inciting Shia and Sunni clashes," said Mr. Iqbal. Stating that the United States had the biggest stock of nuclear, biological and chemical weapons, Mr. Iqbal said America could destroy the entire world several times over. "Now America is planning to put pressure on Asian countries through economic and political means," he said. Mr. Iqbal, Deputy Speaker of the Delhi Legislative Assembly, also condemned President Bush's visit to Rajghat. He said: "It is shocking that sniffer dogs were taken to the memorial of the Father of the Nation. This is a great disrespect to Mahatma Gandhi. Such an act has hurt the sentiments of Indian people." The protestors who were to march towards Purana Quila from Jama Masjid were stopped on the way by the police.
