Haryana Govt. reduces surcharge on power bills

  • Existing rate of 5 per cent bi-monthly surcharge is reduced to 3 per cent for domestic and non-domestic consumers
  • Monthly surcharge of 2 per cent in case of all other categories of consumers would now be 1.5 per cent

    CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Government has decided to reduce the surcharge being levied on unpaid amount of energy bills for various categories of consumers in the State.

    An official note said the Government had reduced the existing rate of 5 per cent bi-monthly surcharge to 3 per cent for domestic and non-domestic consumers. Similarly, the existing monthly surcharge of 2 per cent in case of all other categories of consumers would now be 1.5 per cent. The decision to slash the surcharge has been approved by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, the note said.

    Alleged gangsters arrested

    The Haryana police have nabbed six members of a gang while they were allegedly conspiring to loot a petrol pump in Gurgaon. The police also claim to have recovered a pistol and sharp-edged weapons from their possession.

    An official spokesman said here on Saturday that following a tip-off that some anti-social elements were reportedly planning, in an under-construction building in sector 56, to loot a petrol pump in sector 17, a raiding party was deputed to arrest them.

    The accused have been identified as Asif, Monu,Skeel, Saleem,Ashok and Suresh.

    The police reportedly recovered from their possession a 7.65 bore pistol, a knife, a sharp-edged weapon, three sharp- edged iron rods, a live cartridge as well as a used cartridge.

    Also, the police reportedly recovered two Pulsar motorcycles. On interrogation, they purportedly revealed that a case had already been registered against them for an attempted robbery in Shushant Lok on February 26.
