The Hindu Trophy cricket tournament from Monday

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Hindu Trophy cricket tournament will be held here from March 6 to 12.

Sixteen top teams from the city would participate in the limited-overs tournament.

This was announced at a press conference addressed by the Visakhapatnam District Cricket Association secretary K. Parthasaradhy, regional general manager of The Hindu T.V. Suresh and chief of bureau B. Prabhakkar Sarma here on Saturday.

The Visakhapatnam Cricket Association is organising the tournament on behalf of The Hindu. M/s Kasturi & Sons Ltd., publishers of The Hindu, are organising similar tournaments in Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore. The BCCI is conducting the Sportstar inter-zone tournament at the National level.

The prize money for the tournament here is Rs. 10,000 for the winner and Rs. 5,000 for the runner-up. The Sportstar `player of the tournament' also carries a cash award. There are special prizes for the best individual performance in batting, bowling and for the best all-rounder. — Special Correspondent
