Staff Reporter

The programme will also create an awareness on rural job scheme

  • Problems relating to drinking water, power supply, sanitation etc will be brought to the notice of MROs
  • State urged to distribute 6 lakhs surplus land among the poor
  • Party alleges discrimination in selection of villages under Indiramma scheme

ANANTAPUR: The district unit of Communist Party of India (CPI) has decided to visit villages from March 6 to learn the problems of the people and create awareness on rural employment guarantee scheme.

The programme has been named as `Praja Poru.' District secretary of the party M.V. Ramana told reporters here on Saturday that the party leaders and activists would visit 40 mandals in the district as part of the programme which would be launched from Jellipalli village in Kuderu mandal.

    Agenda

State secretary of the party K. Narayana would also participate in the programme, Mr. Ramana stated. During their visit to villages they would identify people's hardships relating to drinking water, power supply, education, health, sanitation, house sites, distribution of lands, self-employment schemes and old age pensions. Besides, awareness would be created on the rural employment guarantee scheme.

The representations received from the people on their problems would be placed before the MROs concerned for redressal.

    `Distribute land'

He explained that there was about six lakh acres surplus land available in the district. The lands should be distributed among the landless poor, he demanded.

On selection of villages under the first phase of Indiramma scheme, the CPI leader said several villages which required immediate attention for provision of basic needs and infrastructure were not selected for development in the first phase.

At the same time, several villages with reasonably good amenities were included in the list due to the political pressures, he alleged.
