NEW DELHI: The University College of Medical Sciences (UCMS), one of the premier institutions of Delhi University, celebrated its Annual Day by holding the college convocation at India Habitat Centre here on Saturday. Indian Council of Medical Research Director-General N. K. Ganguly was the chief guest at the function and Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Deepak Pental presided. Prof. Pental distributed the postgraduate and graduate medical degrees to students and later in his address emphasised the need for doctors to go to rural areas and serve there. "Apart from the medical commitment, doctors should also have social responsibility. Degrees alone are not enough; it is research that will keep you updated and ahead in this arena. Even on the international front you have commitments and responsibility as diseases in the current scenario have crossed boundaries and these need to be cured and contained,'' he said. UCMS Principal O. P. Tandon highlighted the achievements of the institution over the past year, which included medals and awards bagged by the students in University Professional Examinations and the recognitions earned by faculty members in different fields at national and international levels.
