SALEM: The Saminaickanpatti village near here wears a new look thanks to the volunteers of the National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit - III of the Government College of Engineering. The volunteers, during their 10-day special camp in the village, had given a facelift to the village school. They constructed a shed for the noon-meal centre. While taking up the cleaning works, they made the villagers realise the importance of sanitation. According to a release, the unit, which comprised 50 volunteers, conducted 15 awareness rallies and organised 12 lectures to educate the villagers on various issues. A medical camp and an eye camp organised by the unit benefited over 800 villagers. Students also explained the villagers about bio-energy, computers, fuel cells, rainwater harvesting and waste management, the release said.
