Contests to tap latent talents Contests to tap latent talents

MADURAI: "It is not only important that we raise our voice to uphold girl children's rights, but also it is vital to celebrate the success that `she' made over the years. Childhood is the time to celebrate various joys of life. If we encourage the society to provide a wide range of opportunities to girl children to celebrate the happiness of life one day we will be ultimately celebrating the personhood," said C. Jim Jesudoss, executive director of Vidiyal, an NGO working for street and working children.

To attain this stage, Vidiyal has planned to organise a eight-day celebration `Celebrating girl children taking eight steps in eight directions in eight days' to create an awareness of girl children among the people as part of the international week of the girl children celebrations, Mr. Jim Jesudoss said.

He also said the organisation has planned to conduct various competitions to provide opportunities for them to exhibit their latent skills.

Signature campaign

The eight-day celebrations, which begins on Sunday (March 5), will go on till March 12, which will include various programmes such as sports meet, signature campaign, elocution competition, human-chain formation, etc.

The winners of the competitions will be honoured with prizes and certificates.

Girl children under the folds of Vidiyal and students of various schools and colleges will participate in the celebrations and make the city colourful by flying 10,000 balloons with slogans imprinted on them highlighting the importance of girl children on Sunday.

For more details, interested persons can contact the organisers at 94437-74707 or 2675632.
