Corrections and Clarifications

A few readers have doubts whether we are right in using the term "actor" for women. An actor, according to the Oxford Dictionary, is any person whose profession is acting. It can be male or female.

President George Bush had a sumptuous spread at Rashtrapati Bhavan on March 2 ("Flavours of India, minus chicken, on the table" March 3, 2006), when a band in attendance played popular film tunes. Obviously no one sang, otherwise we would have got the song "Dil De Key Dekho" correctly, and not as "Dik De Key Dekho".

Like father, like son, is what we must have assumed. But Kuzhikkarai P. Viswalingam, who received the "Hanrag-Hamsadhwani" cash award from Hamsadhwani on March 3 (Chennai city edition, March 4, 2006, Page 10) is a noted vocalist, while his father, Kuzhikkarai Pichaiyappa, was a reputed Nadaswaram vidwan.

The Hyderabad city edition (March 3, 2006) had a headline "PJR's plea to YSR on MRPS". Probably it was the rash of acronyms that transformed MRTS.
