Autorickshaw drivers

flouting rules

A recent exercise launched by the police to take action against erring auto-rickshaw drivers in the city is laudable. Many of the drivers are not following the road rules. Thought the rules say the capacity of the vehicle is four persons only, the drivers are allowing six to nine passengers. Besides, initiating stringent action against such erring drivers, the Government should also direct the automobile companies to change the design of auto-rickshaws.

New train

The Union Railway Ministry's decision of introducing a tri-weekly passenger train between Machilipatnam and Tirupati is a praiseworthy move. The new train will be useful not only to people of Machilipatnam, but those who are residing in the surrounding villages. We hope the Ministry will also consider another long-pending request of the people here that there be a train service between Machilipatnam and Chennai soon.

Corruption

Reported misappropriation of public money by some employees working in the Machilipatnam municipality is a cause of worry for all taxpayers. The higher authorities should change the existing rules pertaining to payment of taxes and accept payments through nationalised banks. Besides, taking steps to curb corruption in the municipal office is the need of the hour.
