It's Teena's day out

SRIVILLIPUTHUR: Two new meet records were set in women's section on the concluding day of the three-day 24th Tamil Nadu inter-Engineering Sports (TIES) athletic meet at Arulmigu Kalasalingam College of Engineering ground, Krishnan Kovil near here on Sunday.

The concluding day belonged to J. Teena Monisha of SRM Engineering College, Kattankulathur. Teena, who won the gold in long jump on the opening day, went on to set a new meet record in triple jump (second gold) and then bagged a golden sprint-double (100m and 200m) for a tally of four gold medals.

This enabled Teena to tie with Usha Rani of St.Joseph's College of Engineering, Chennai for the women's individual championship with 28 points. Usha Rani, who had already won three gold medals, won the 1,500m gold, on Sunday.

G.Premika of St. Joseph's Chennai set a new meet record in hammer with a throw of 19.83m bettering the old mark of 19.23m.

P. Jeyasivaraman of Sethu Institute of Technology, Kariapatti won the men's individual championship with a tally of 23 points.

St. Joseph's College of Engineering, Chennai won both the men's and women's team championships in athletics with 96 and 130 points respectively.

St. Joseph's won the men and women games team championships also with 72 and 44 points respectively and retained the overall championship with a tally of 342 points.

Komarapalayam) 1:14:58.0s; 400m hurdles: V. Sathyanathan Bannarai Amman E.C. Sathyamangalam) 58.9s; Triple jump: Elavarasan (S.R.M. Kattankulathur) 13.81m;

Decathlon: V. Ashok Arunachalam (National E.C. Kovilpatti) 4,378 pts; 4x400m relay: St. Joseph's Engg. College, Chennai 3:37.50s.

Women: 100m: J. Teena Monisha (SRM Engg. Kattankulathur) 12.80s; 200m: J. Teena Monisha - 26.5s; 100 hurdles: A. Preethi (St. Joseph's) 20.41s; 1,500m: Usha Rani (St. Joseph's) 5:54.86s; Triple jump: J. Teena Monisha 10.31 m (NMR, old 8.82m); Hammer: G.
