MADURAI: The Madurai Chapter of the Tamil Nadu Mediation and Conciliation Centre (TNMCC), set up in the premises of the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court, has successfully resolved a long-pending domestic dispute between a couple. According to a communiqué issued by Isaac Mohanlal, Chief coordinator of the centre, here on Friday, the couple had a strained relationship for more than seven years. While the woman, employed as a teacher in a government school near here, had sought divorce from her husband, who was suffering from paralytic attack, the man refused to oblige and instead filed a petition before the Bench seeking restitution of conjugal rights. Hearing the case on February 15, 2006, a Division Bench comprising Justice A. Kulasekaran and Justice S.K. Krishnan referred the matter to the TNMCC. Thereafter, a team of mediators including K. Samidurai and L.J. Soundararajan conducted several rounds of conciliatory talks between February 15 and 24. At the end of the proceedings, the husband agreed for divorce on receiving a sum of Rs.70,000 from his wife towards full and final settlement for his maintenance. He also gave a written assurance that he shall not seek more money in the future.
