KADAPA: At least 10 persons, including four children, were crushed to death and several others feared trapped under the rubble when a dilapidated private school building collapsed during removal of encroachments at Mannur in Rajampet Municipality limits on Sunday. The Sarada School building came down with a thud when a poclain deployed by the municipal authorities was pulling down an encroached portion of the building. Some 40 persons, including workers, children and onlookers, were feared trapped. Four children were among the victims. Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy announced ex gratia of Rs. 2 lakhs to the kin of the victims and an assistance of Rs. 10,000 to injured persons, Joint Collector Kanthilal Dande announced at the mishap site. He said rescue operations would continue through the night.
