Chalk out a series of programmes to reach out to ryots

  • Rytu Chaitanya Yatras to cover as many as 50,000 villages
  • Chief Minister to launch the `yatra'

HYDERABAD: With a budgetary allocation of Rs. 469 crores for 2006-07, compared to Rs. 333 crores last year, the Agriculture department is all set with the required arrangements for kharif- 2006.

Agriculture Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy told a press conference here on Sunday that the department had chalked out a series of contact programmes during which officials would give inputs to farmers.

Between March 6 and 29, officials of agriculture, horticulture, sericulture and marketing departments and banking services would go around interacting with farmers and preparing agriculture action plans. They would gather information, like major crops raised in a particular mandal, potential for crop diversification, requirement of seed and input subsidy and help from banks. This would become a sort of "magna carta" for the future.

    Focus on tech

Mr. Reddy said next in line would be "Rytu Chaitanya Yatras" (RCY) between April 2 and 20 when teams of officials would cover over 50,000 villages. The teams would sit with farmers and give them all help, disseminate latest technologies and help in their use to take on fresh challenges.

They would be told of programmes aimed to make agriculture profitable. The Minister said the RCY programme would be launched by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy in Nalgonda district.

From May 3 to 6, "rytu sadassus" would be conducted in every revenue division. On Ugadi, "rytu panchangams" would be given away to a representative of a village.
