TIRUPATI: The Viswa Hindu Parishad's Dakshina Bharath Dharma Sansad which ended here on Sunday hammered out a broad consensus to create what it called a solid `Hindu vote bank.' A resolution to this effect was adopted at the meeting, attended among others by VHP's international president Ashok Singhal and all-India general secretary Praveen Togadia besides a huge contingent of Peethadhipathis, sadhus and sants from all over the South. In a significant move, the meet said the vote bank which it proposed to put in place in the `Indian polity' would support any party or even an `independent candidate' provided they promised to meet `Hindu demands".
`Contentious issues'
The Tirupati summit, sixth and the last in the series, also held in-depth deliberations on `contentious issues' and adopted an action plan to translate them into action. Among the issues that came up for discussion were Ayodhya, religious conversions, jehadi terrorism and cow slaughter. On the mandir, issue the conclave resolved to revive its agitational campaign after the `Artha Kumbha Mela' to be held at Prayag in 2007. On conversions, the Sansad resolved to launch an agitation to pressure Parliament to pass legislation to ban religious conversions and make it a cognisable offence. Among other resolutions adopted at the sansad was to declare the Bhagavad Gita' as a national epic, constitution of an autonomous `Dharmik Mandal' to administer Hindu temples and mutts freeing them from the shackles of the `secular' governments, and so on.
