Single judge order set aside

NEW DELHI: Employees cannot directly approach the High Court for redressal of their grievances if other alternative remedies are available to them, the Delhi High Court has ruled. Setting aside the order of a single judge who had directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to pay minimum wages to certain categories of sweepers working in the corporation, a division bench of Chief Justice Markandeya Katju and Justice Madan B Lokur asked the employees to approach the Industrial Disputes Tribunal to settle their wage dispute with the civic officials.

Acting on the petition, a single judge directed the MCD to pay the part time sweepers the statutory minimum wages as applicable under the Act.- PTI
