Securitymen, the most vulnerable lot Appropos `Thieves kill watchman' ( The Hindu dated 27.2.06 ). Searching for livelihood the securitymen, generally from far-off places like Rajasthan, Nepal and at times locally appointed appear to be an `unhappy lot,' as killing or shooting of watchmen are reported in the media now and then. The more influential the owner of the residence happens, the more likelihood of the case of the unfortunate watchman getting hushed up. At times, the relations from far-off places like north India and Nepal, of the deceased may not be in a position to turn up even for the last rites not to speak of the killers being caught. Let the influential leaders start a `Security Men's Association' and help the watchmen in need (in case of any eventuality). Kakuturu Nagarajarao, Yousufguda Check post Issue tickets in local trains Passengers alighting at odd hours from different cities at Secunderabad railway junction face problems when they hurriedly catch connecting MMTS trains with luggage and family members. Neither they have the time to buy local train tickets nor can wait for another train. In such cases the local train TTE's should be authorised to issue tickets without penalty to such passengers who show their long journey tickets. This way, the railways can help rail commuters to end their journey in a happy mood. P.Vasudeva Rao, Boudhnagar Rein in the cable operators Generally it is said that he who pays the piper calls the tune. Not so with the cable TV distributors, they are a law unto themselves. They hike the fee at their sweet will and pleasure. They remove channels, replace them with unheard ones and shift the frequency of channels without any advance intimation. The customer is never consulted. Our colony cable distributor, Hathway, is no exception. BBC, CNN, Sab and other popular channels are taken off the air without notice. They have even blanked the Sanskar channel, which is a treat to watch and listen to Pujya Shankaracharya, Swami Kripaluji's discourses. A lot of criticism is seen in the print media about this unilateral move. So far Hathway has not responded. May I request them to restore the channel immediately. M.I.Suryanarayana, Duraganagar Colony Crackdown on illegal structures Demolition of all buildings / flats / pent houses / additional floors, extensions to the present houses illegally constructed by all concerned in the twin cities of Hyderabad / Secunderabad must also be carried out on war footing by the Government of Andhra Pradesh as in the case of Delhi Administration in compliance with the orders passed by the Delhi High Court. The nexus between the MCH and the builders needs to be broken in the twin cities as well. S.K.Sachdev, Bazar Ghat Tedious wait at Passport Office When I went to the Passport Office at 9 a.m. to apply for renewal of passport, I could come out only at about 12.15 p.m. Though the staff is pretty fast in checking the applications it still takes about couple of hours before the entire process is over. Visitors are made to sit on chairs quite comfortably but no for long as one needs to shift from one chair to the other to get to the counter. A Special Protection Force constable's eye is on you when you move from one seat to the other. If token system is introduced, these sit-ups can be avoided. Well once you reach the counter your application is checked and the moment you heave a sigh of relief that you are done with, you are shocked when directed to pay the fee at another counter. Another long queue, and believe me it takes equally the same or more time to pay the fee as only one cash counter is at your service. It is strange that the people who check the passport application forms do not accept the fees. Will the RPO, Hyderabad see that this inconvenience and `torture' is stopped? Shahbaz Husain, Banjara Hills Restore trains The South Central Railway has withdrawn a few trains originating from Kacheguda railway station and running towards Nanded, Aurangabad and Manmad due to gauge conversion few years back. The SCR authorities have earlier indicated through notification that the Devagiri expressing running between Manmad, Aurangabad, Nanded and Secunderabad will be extended up to Kacheguda railway station as the earlier train Ajanta Express used to ply on the meter gauge from Kacheguda station. Since the broad gauge lines are operative from Kacheguda the originating and the terminating stations of express and passenger trains running between the above station's be restored from Kacheguda. The travelling public is finding it very difficult to board the trains from Secunderabad and also are loosing financially for hiring transport to reach Secunderabad. The Devagiri Express and any other planned additional trains towards Basar, Nanded may also be operated from Kacheguda railway station. Hope the SCR authorities will give due consideration towards restoration of the above trains from Kacheguda instead of Secunderabad in the interest of travelling public. Subhash Gangakhedkar, Kacheguda `RTC will not spare erring drivers' This has reference to the letter `RTC drivers need to be disciplined,' ( The Hindu 22.2.06). In this connection the following clarification is furnished: APSRTC has noted the observations of the reader. It has a system of observing the erring drivers through enforcement squad, officials and also train them, correct them and in extreme cases take disciplinary action also. Further, the police officials challan such erring drivers. We have also exposed all the drivers and conductors to intensive training in the last 2 years and at present one intensive training programme is also on hand (known as Mana Chethilonemana bhavitha). While regretting the inconvenience caused, it is requested to give us the details of erring drivers i.e., Bus No., time & date of observation etc., either at our call centre, Koti Ph: 23443320 or by mobile numbers of DVMS/ DMs painted inside and outside the buses.
