HYDERABAD: The mystery of a woman who had gone missing on February 28 was solved on Sunday after her husband confessed to the Alwal police that he had murdered her suspecting her fidelity. He stabbed her to death and then along with his friend burnt the body. Police said Naveen Kumar, a 38-year-old former convict, admitted to stabbing his wife Sunita Kumari, 32, on February 28 after an argument over her loyalty to him. Sunita's father Sudheer Chandra Sarkar had lodged a complaint on March 2, stating that his daughter was missing. Alwal police had registered a case and during investigation, interrogated Kumar who confessed to the crime.
Regular quarrels
Kumar, according to Alwal Sub Inspector Satish Reddy, admitted that the couple, which had two children, used to have regular quarrels over Sunita returning home at late hours. He had also forcibly stopped her from continuing her job as a computer operator with a private company. On February 28, Sunita was preparing to go out at 11 a.m., to "meet a friend," when Kumar stopped her. The ensuing quarrel resulted in Kumar going into a fit of rage, following which he stabbed her several times. He left the house after locking it and returned in the evening with his friend Ramesh. The duo then wrapped Sunita's body in a gunny bag before taking it to a vacant land near the Cavalry Barracks railway station, where they doused it with petrol and set it afire. Police said Kumar was convicted and sentenced to life in 1991 for murdering one Ravinder Reddy in Trimulgherry.
Several cases
However, he escaped from custody in 1994 while undergoing treatment in a hospital, only to be nabbed again two years later. He was set free on August 15, 2004, after which he was jobless and was living off Sunita's salary. Kumar also had several cases under various sections registered against him in Alwal and Karkhana police stations from 1989 onwards. Meanwhile, police are on the lookout for Kumar's accomplice, Ramesh, who has been absconding ever since. Kumar was placed under arrest on Sunday.
