Flush with Bush visit, Chief Minister wants more number of litterbins

  • Sewerage system crucial to improve the city's image
  • Mere widening, maintenance of roads is not sufficient
  • Officials told to increase frequency of garbage collection
  • MCH authority asked to make pre-dawn surprise visits

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Sunday asked officials of the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad (MCH) to spend more time on ensuring sanitation and cleanliness of the twin cities and surrounding municipalities.

"You have to be more vigilant in maintaining cleanliness and sanitation facilities as complaints about unhygienic conditions in and around the city are on the rise. I myself have been receiving several complaints," he told officials of the Municipal Administration Department.

Maintenance and widening of roads alone was not sufficient, overall cleanliness, maintenance of proper sanitation and sewerage systems was crucial as it would not only ensure a healthy atmosphere but also improve the city's image.

"This is all the more important with the city being hailed as the most happening one in the country and getting international recognition with recent visit of American President George W. Bush," he pointed out.

Dr. Reddy said that more number of litterbins of international standards should be placed at all identified points and the frequency of garbage collection increased.

    Directive to officials

Dr. Reddy directed department Secretary S.P. Singh and MCH Commissioner Sanjay Jaju to make pre-dawn surprise visits frequently and monitor the garbage collection as well as sanitary conditions in the city and surrounding municipalities on a regular basis.

"Development should be a continuous process. There should be no room for lethargy. Do not rest on your laurels," the Chief Minister maintained.
